Hope Unexpected nurtures, empowers, and equips single mothers by demonstrating the love of Jesus Christ.

Our mission is achieved by showing mercy, love, and grace through hospitality and support, offering multiple programs to serve our clients. Our goal is to bridge the gap and provide the resources needed to make success and self-sufficiency possible.

Whether a single mom comes to us already knowing Jesus as her Savior or is exploring Christianity for the first time, we are committed to being here for her. We will walk alongside her in her parenting journey, supporting her no matter where she is in her faith walk.

Our Programs

Monday Meets serve as the foundation of Hope Unexpected. Each week, single moms in our program come together to share a meal provided by generous volunteer groups. Following the meal, loving volunteers care for infants and toddlers while older children participate in our Biblically-based children’s program, taught by certified educators. Simultaneously, the women gather for Faith Conversations, facilitated by two dedicated leaders. During this time, they discuss real-life issues from a Biblical perspective, creating a safe environment for moms to share their triumphs and challenges, all while being supported by our compassionate staff.

Additional Services Provided at Monday Meets

Monday Meets

Every mom supported by Hope Unexpected has the chance to be matched with a trained volunteer mentor. This mentor provides one-on-one support as she sets and reaches her goals. Whether it’s meeting for coffee or assisting a single mom with her college application, mentors play an essential role in our program.

Studies indicate that single moms are disproportionately affected by mental health disorders (Jansen et al., 2014) as well as stress and anxiety (American Psychological Association), isolation (Murray et al., 2016), and financial strain (Pew Research Center, 2021). To help address this, Hope Unexpected provides professional counseling services at no cost to the women and children we serve. We provide individual counseling through our four counseling partners, along with group counseling, where childcare is available prior to Monday Meets.

Life Skills is a new program available to the single moms served by Hope Unexpected. The classes are offered in 4-6 week segments, covering topics such as financial responsibility, household organization, and building healthy relationships. These sessions are taught by professionals in relevant fields, as well as Hope Unexpected’s Program Directors

The Car Care Program was created to help bridge the gap to success and self-sufficiency by offering access to free car repairs, maintenance, and public transportation vouchers. Additionally, it now covers driver’s education and vehicle registration fees. To access these services, moms in Hope Unexpected’s program must regularly attend Monday Meets, where they earn points for their participation. These points can then be redeemed for various car and transportation-related needs at one of our car repair partner locations.
